How to structure a painting quote
Painters generally quote a job as a lump sum for each part of the work rather than per square metre. Grouping the quote under clear headings — preparation, interior, exterior and handover — shows the client what is covered while keeping your pricing your own.
Preparation
Protection, masking, sanding, filling, caulking and spot priming. Good preparation is most of a quality paint job and is easy to under-allow.
Interior
Walls and ceilings, wet-area and feature finishes, then the trims, doors and stairs in their appropriate sheens.
Exterior
Washing down, render and brick, eaves, fascia, gutters, doors, windows and any decking or metalwork — the part most often left out of an interior-only price.
Handover
A final touch-up at handover, plus paint disposal and site clean.
