How to structure an electrical quote

Most electricians quote residential work as a lump sum for each stage rather than pricing every point individually. Grouping the quote under clear headings — supply and switchboard, rough-in, fit-off and the specialty circuits — shows the client what they are paying for while keeping your per-point pricing your own.

Supply and switchboard

The temporary pole, the underground service, the meter box and switchboard, consumer mains, and the RCDs or RCBOs protecting each circuit.

Rough-in

Cable and conduit run through the frame before lining, plus nail and screw plates that protect cables where they pass through studs and plates.

Fit-off — power, switching and lighting

Outlets, switches and the lighting plan, including downlights, external lights and any smart switching.

Dedicated and specialty circuits

Oven, cooktop, hot water and air-conditioning circuits, plus any solar, battery or EV charging that needs its own protected supply.

Safety, data and compliance

Interconnected smoke alarms, data and communications cabling, the final fit-off, and the Certificate of Electrical Compliance that must be issued on completion.
