How to structure a concreting quote
Most subcontractors quote a slab as a lump sum for each part of the job rather than exposing their quantities and rates. Grouping the work under clear headings — excavation, formwork, reinforcement and the concrete itself — shows the client exactly what they are paying for while keeping your pricing your own.
Excavation and preparation
Set-out, excavation, topsoil removal, the crushed-rock base and compaction, and the termite barrier. On a sloping or reactive site this part of the quote can carry more cost than the concrete.
Formwork
Edge boards, stakes, penetration boxing, form-release oil and the vapour barrier under the slab.
Reinforcement (reo)
Mesh, trench mesh, bar chairs, tie wire and starter bars, with the pre-pour inspection booked before any concrete is ordered.
Concrete supply and placement
Pump hire, concrete supply at the specified strength, placing and finishing labour, control joints, curing, test cylinders and the site clean-down.
Show your exclusions
A clear list of what is not included — rock, retaining, engineering design, out-of-hours work — is as important as the inclusions, and prevents disputes over variations later.
